It is hard for me to believe that the spirit of the constitutional language that our honorable forefathers so eloquently wrote, has been watered down to this. By definition, as described in the Oxford Wordfinder, we Christians are a cult. However, that entry refers us to the word "sectarian" and this definition describes a cultist as bigoted, narrow-minded, factional, cliquish, rigid, limited, fanatical, prejudicial, dogmatist, extremist and zealot.
While I realize that Ms. Reno's remarks were made in the heat of the Waco incident, I find it insensitive to integrate God fearing mainline Christians in a group that includes the David Koresh's of our society. In our Christian life, it is one more stumbling block to overcome as we try to witness for our Lord. Government has nothing to fear from a Christian as we are taught only to pray for our leaders. I do not believe it is the business of any Christian to interfere with government in the name of his/her Church. As in the example taught by Jesus, our protests should be quiet and peaceful, upholding the principals of God's Commandments. At all times, our political positions will be disagreeable, misunderstood and misinterpreted by some. It is our responsibility as creations of God to always show our Christian tenets and express ourselves unwaveringly, but always humble. Offensive and aggressive demonstration gives rise to suspicion and distrust. It will follow, that the world will surely change if we follow His command as recorded in Matt: 28:19. We need no other directive. Amen.
Yours in Christ,
Reed
"A cultist is one who has a strong belief in the Bible and the Second Coming of Christ; who frequently attends Bible studies; who has a high level of financial giving to a Christian cause; who home schools for their children; who has accumulated survival foods and has a strong belief in the Second Amendment; and who distrusts big government. Any of these may qualify (a person as a cultist) but certainly more than one (of these) would cause us to look at this person as a threat, and his family as being a risk situation that qualified for government interference."
