The Heritage Village Museum is actually an entire village dedicated to preserving Texas' past. This living museum of pioneer history features and old-blacksmith shop, railroad depot, livery stable and log cabins from the 1800's. Demonstrations of the old way people studied and lived offer an outstanding insight into pioneer life in East Texas.
While you are there you can dine at the world famous Pickett House Restaurant that serves all-you-can-eat meals boarding house style. Shop for souvenirs at the Heritage Village Museum store with books, pottery, quilts, toys and artwork from local and regional artists. If you're interested in geneology, the Whitmeyer Geneology Library offers resources covering most of the United States.
Events run year-round with the Festival of Arts in March, Harvest Festival in October, Christmas Twilight Tour, outdoor dramas, singings and more.
